This list relies on on-site observations, and signs are always being added and removed, so it is always likely to be incomplete. Additions and corrections are welcome.
North of Market
Alta Vista Terrace. A private alley north of Vallejo Street between Mason and Taylor, between numbers 926-930 and 932.
Amity Alley. A gated alley running east from the north end of Ada Court, which is north of O'Farrell Street between Leavenworth and Hyde Streets, between numbers 658 and 666.
Attridge Alley. A private alley north of Filbert Street between Jones and Leavenworth, between numbers 1000-1006 and 1020.
Breen Place. North of McAllister between Hyde and Larkin.
Continuum Way. A gated street south of Golden Gate Avenue between Leavenworth and Hyde.
Exchange Place. Between 333 and 369 Pine Street, on the south side between Sansome and Montgomery.
Freeman Court. A very short street south of Clay Street just west of Powell, opposite the south end of Codman Place.
Hamlin Street. A private street north of Green Street between Leavenworth and Hyde, between numbers 1126 and 1132-1134.
Hooker Alley. A gated alley east of Mason Street between Bush and Pine, home to a community garden. Though it doesn't have a street sign or sidewalk stamp, it can be identified by the notice board on its fence.
Jerome Alley. A gated alley south of Pacific Avenue just west of Montgomery Street.
John Maher Street. A pedestrian-only street connecting Battery and Front between Green and Union.
Kohler Place. A private street south of Green Street opposite Castle Street.
Lick Place. The site of the Crocker Galleria.
Lysette Street. A private street south of Sacramento between Jones Street and Leroy Place, between numbers 1329 and 1343.
Mabel Alley. A gated street east of Hyde Street between O'Farrell and Geary, between numbers 500 and 522.
Mulford Alley. A gated street east of Taylor Street which serves as the entrance to number 828.
Opal Place. The gated alley east of Taylor Street, behind the Warfield.
Verdi Place. West of Montgomery Street between Pacific and Broadway.
Vine Terrace.1 An alley north of Pine Street just west of Mason.
Wagner Alley. A gated private alley south of Eddy betweey Jones and Leavenworth.
Winthrop Street. A gated private street between 111 Chestnut Street and Telegraph Hill.
South of Market
Bayside Village Place. A private street in the Bayside Village housing development, connecting to Delancey Street half a block southwest of Beale and half a block northwest of Brannan.
Colusa Place and Chase Court. Past the northeast end of Colton Street.
Fargo Place.1 A very short alley off the southwest side of Boardman Place.
Grote Place. An alley south of Folsom Street just west of Fremont, on the west side of the telephone exchange.
Hulbert Alley. A gated alley south of Clara Street just east of 5th Street.
Juniper Street.1 A small street south of Folsom between 10th & 11th Streets. This street was signed in May 2025, but no longer is.
Oscar Alley. A former alley connecting Tehama and Clementina Streets behind 235 2nd Street, obliterated by the Transbay Terminal bus ramp and now part of a parking lot.
Sumner Street.1 A small street south of Howard between 7th and 8th Streets, connecting Howard to Clementina.
Tulip Alley. Southwest of Russ Street between Minna and Natoma. No trace of it remains.
Southeast
Bayview Park Road. Key Avenue becomes this road as it enters the eponymous park.
Cloud Circle, Science Circle, West Road and East Road in the City College Ocean Campus
Coronado Street. An undeveloped street (though decorative tile structures are at each end) connecting Ingerston and Jamestown Avenues between Griffith and Hawes Streets.
Cosgrove Street. Encircles the now-closed Silver Crest Restaurant and Bar on Bayshore Blvd. Nothing distinguishes it from a parking lot.
Craig Lane. Part of the plan for the area around the closed power plant at the east end of 23rd Street. On approximately the location of an existing unnamed roadway which begins at 22nd Street between Illinois and Louisiana and curves south and then east.
Davenport Lane. An undeveloped street connecting Trumbull Street and Alemany Blvd. on the west side of 333 Trumbull.
Jack Balestreri Way. The stairway connecting the block of Carolina Street north of 20th Street to 20th Street. It is not signed and does not have sidewalk stamps, but it does have a plaque with its name.
Linda Vista Steps. A two-block undeveloped street connecting Geneva Avenue, Rolph Street and Chicago Way, at the intersection of Chicago Way and Lapham Way.
Shoup Avenue. An undeveloped street, now a fenced, vacant lot, connecting Williams Avenue opposite Diana Street (where it is gated) to Armstrong Avenue next to number 1928 (where there is a wall).
Sunbeam Lane. Connects the north end of Junior Terrace to Cayuga Avenue.
Sunnyside Terrace. A private back alley east of Foerster between Staples and Judson.
Tampa Lane. An undeveloped street connecting Bridgeview Drive, between numbers 122 and 126, to the east end of Quesada Avenue. It is not separated from the open space to its east, and, though it is overgrown, might be passable except for the fence at the Bridgeview end.
Thorne Way. An undeveloped street east of Bridgeview Drive, between 289 Bridgeview and 201 Topeka. It is fenced at Bridgeview and has been annexed by 201 Topeka.
Towerside Avenue. A private street connecting Schwerin Street to Rey Street between Sunnydale Avenue and Heritage Lane.
Ware Street. A remnant of a street that once paralleled Wheat Street one block to the west and intersected San Bruno Avenue just south of Olmstead Street. It has been erased by 101 except for a fenced triangular lot behind 3061 and 3099 San Bruno.
Yellow Cab Access Road. A private street connecting Missouri and Mississippi Streets north of Cesar Chavez Street.
Western Addition
Banneker Way. A private street north of Grove Street between Buchanan and Webster.
Dicha Alley. Connects the west end of Lupine Avenue to the right-angle bend in Wood Street.
Larch Way. A private street in the Plaza East housing project, connecting Laguna and Buchanan between Turk and Eddy. It clearly takes its name from Larch Street, four blocks east, but no sign indicates that it's named Way rather than Street.
Pinar Lane. An undeveloped street connecting St. Joseph's Avenue just south of Eddy Street to Baker Street between numbers 950 and 960. It is gated at its St. Joseph's end and fenced just east of its Baker end.
Shafer Court. The road in Fort Mason which buildings 41 to 48 face, north of Bay Street and west of Franklin Street.
The Presidio
Battery Crosby Road. A dirt trail leading from Lincoln Blvd. to its namesake battery, now known as the Batteries to Bluffs Trail.
Battery Dynamite Road and Battery Saffold Road. Gated roads next to their namesake batteries, east of Lincoln Boulevard and north of Kobbe Avenue.
Birmingham Road. Between Gorgas Avenue and Thornburg Road.
Clarke Street. Between Liggett Avenue and Lovers' Lane.
Crook Street, East Beach Road, Jauss Street and Zanowitz Avenue. Little remains of these streets in the northeast corner of the Presidio, between Mason Street, the Crissy Field marsh, East Beach and Yacht Road.
Howard Road. The road across Lincoln Blvd. from Bowley Street.
Incinerator Road. An alley behind buildings 667 and 668.
Kendall Drive. Connects Gorgas Road, Birmingham Road and Thornburg Road west of General Kennedy Avenue.
Kinzey Street. A small street behind building 1201, connecting Ralston at its southern intersection with Upton to Ralston at its intersection with Greenough.
Miller Road. On the east side of the church on Storey Avenue just east of Lincoln Blvd.
Patten Road. Replaced by the stretch of the Presidio Promenade bicycle path from McDowell Avenue to Lincoln Blvd.
Stone Street. A short street connecting Lincoln Blvd. and Storey Avenue just south of their intersection.
Todd Street. A small street north of Kobbe Avenue and east of Pope Street, connecting the two.
The central hills
Baxter Alley. An undeveloped street connecting Yerba Buena Avenue on the right side of number 205, where it could be easily climbed if one didn't mind crushing the flowering plants growing there, to Casitas Avenue at Cresta Vista Drive, between numbers 298 and 306, where there is a white wooden fence and dense vegetation beyond.
Bigler Avenue. An unpaved path connecting Twin Peaks Blvd., between number 196 and 2 Clarendon Avenue, with Belgrave Avenue between numbers 19 and 25.
Clarkson Street and 31st Street. Undeveloped streets west of O'Shaugnessy. Clarkson is in line with the north end of Arroyo Way. 31st Street is in line with, and almost extends to, 312 Marietta.
Cuba Alley. An undeveloped street east of Marietta Drive at its southern intersection with Teresita Blvd. Its Teresita end has been annexed by neighbors; its far end is in steep open space and difficult to access.
Emil Lane. An undeveloped street connecting the west end of Burlwood Drive, between 600 Los Palmos and 1 Burlwood, where it is too overgrown to access without trespassing on neighbors' properties, with Cresta Vista Drive between numbers 198 and 200, where it is fenced but clear and a good look can be had without jumping the fence.
Fairbanks Street. An undeveloped street extending a short distance into Corona Heights Park from the Roosevelt Way/Museum Way entrance.
Fenton Lane. An undeveloped street connecting the south end of the first block of Portola Drive (off Corbett opposite Cuesta Court) with Burnett Avenue between numbers 795 and 801. It is easily traversable halfway down from Burnett; the next quarter of its length requires only wading through ivy, but then it becomes steeper and more overgrown; the last quarter, down to Portola, is easy again.
Gatun Alley. This street's first block is a concrete drainage channel, which can be traversed, connecting Foerster Street, between numbers 843 & 847, and Molimo Drive, between numbers 95 & 101. Its 100 block, which connects Molimo between numbers 100 and 104 to Bella Vista Way between numbers 51 and 101, is fenced at both ends.
Golding Lane. A two-block, undeveloped street. Its first block connects Market Street just north of Cuesta Court (opposite Elizabeth), where it ends above a ten-foot retaining wall, to Corbett Avenue between numbers 947 and 955, where it can be accessed by squeezing past the hedge. Its second block connects Corbett just north of number 956, where it is fenced and gated, to Burnett between numbers 587 and 601, where a short, unlocked gate leads to a stretch adjoining number 601 and ending in a tangle of vegetation.
Lassen Alley. An undeveloped street east of Teresita Blvd., between numbers 712 & 735. Its Teresita end has been annexed by neighbors; its far end is difficult to access.
Lori Lane. An undeveloped street west of Dellbrook Avenue between numbers 497 and 501. The first stretch has been incorporated into the latter's fenced yard. Seen from the former's rear window (there was an open house), there is nothing beyond but tangled forest. On Clarendon, steepness and blackberry vines make an approach from the rear unappealing.
Ludlow Alley. An undeveloped street connecting Casitas Avenue between numbers 186-188 and 192, where it is fenced and blocked by a fallen tree, with the intersection of Lansdale and Dalewood, between 17 Lansdale and 285 Dalewood, where it can be easily accessed and is just a ridge of dirt between its graded, developed neighbors.
Monument Way. A stairway connecting 17th Street just east of Clayton to Upper Terrace.
Morgan Alley. A two-block, undeveloped street. Its first block connects Grand View Avenue between numbers 224-226 and 232-234, where a very light explorer can use a child-sized folding step to climb a short retaining wall, to Market Street between numbers 3699 and 3701, where there is a low, unlocked gate. The second block begins at a retaining wall on Market and ends on Corbett Avenue between numbers 749 and 751, where it provides access to the lower level of number 749.
Saint Croix Drive. An undeveloped street that starts at the north end of Molimo Drive and parallels Myra Way around the northeast corner of the Mount Davidson open space.
Auto Drive. A back alley connecting Lawton and Moraga Streets between 8th and 9th Avenues.
Automobile Drive. A back alley connecting 26th and 27th Avenues between El Camino del Mar and Seacliff Avenue.
Conservatory Access Road. Leads from John F. Kennedy Drive to the east side of the Conservatory of Flowers, and encircles the Dahlia Garden. This road was called Pompei Circle in multiple online maps, but Rec & Parks has no record of that name ever being officially assigned to the road.
Crestwell Walk and Encinal Walk. Undeveloped streets extending uphill into Grandview Park. Crestwell is one block long and adjoins 748 Noriega Street. Encinal has two blocks, one beginning approximately opposite 1639 15th Avenue and one under the eastern staircase, which is signed the 800 block of Moraga Street.
Emerald Lane. A path connecting Riverton, Springfield and Everglade Drives between Sloat Boulevard and Ocean Avenue.
Felix Avenue. A vacated, now-private street connecting Cambon Drive, between Castelo & Font, to the intersection of 19th Avenue and Junipero Serra Blvd.
Lakeshore Plaza. The Sloat Blvd. entrance to the shopping center has the same name as the shopping center.
Monte Vista Drive. A short street west of 19th Avenue in Stonestown, just south of the Brave Chuch.
Olympic Country Club Road. A private street inside the Olympic Club on Skyline Boulevard.
Pino Alley. A back alley that connected Judah and Kirkham Streets between 35th & 36th Avenue. Almost all of it has been annexed by adjoining properties, but a stub remains off 36th Avenue.
Portal Path. Connects Portola Drive, opposite Claremont Blvd., to San Lorenzo Way.
Public Park. A three-block path through the Merritt Terrace subdivision that connects Kensington Way, opposite Vasquez Avenue, to Dorchester Way.
Rock Alley. An undeveloped street connecting the west end of Rockaway Avenue, next to number 94, where it is overgrown, to Idora Avenue just east of Garcia, between numbers 181 and 187, where it has been annexed by a neighbor.
San Francisco Golf Club Road.1 A private street leading from Junipero Serra to the eponymous club.
Stern Grove Court. A private street to the east of 19th Avenue between Wawona and Sloat.
Terrace Walk. A path connecting Yerba Buena Avenue at Santa Paula Avenue to the loop at the east end of Terrace Drive, and then to San Anselmo Avenue at Santa Paula.
Verdun Way. A path connecting Claremont to Lenox between West Portal Elementary and West Portal Playground.
Bigelow and Halyburton Courts. Short streets inside a fenced area along 13th Street east of Gateview Avenue. A sign at 13th & Gateview points east to these streets and the other Courts off Gateview, but Bigelow and Halyburton themselves are not signed.
Lester Court. West of Gateview Avenue just north of its intersection with Avenue B.
Perimeter Path. The path from the west end of 9th Street to the north end of Avenue I.
Westside Drive. A street which intersects Gateview Avenue twice, once just south of Gateview's northern intersection with Avenue B, and once halfway between Gateview's northern and southern intersections with Avenue B. DPW maps show Westside as a continuous loop connecting its two intersections with Gateview, but it only exists today near those intersections.
